White Water Rafting
North Creek in the Adirondack Mountains may be most known for the excellent Gore
Mountain skiing, but it's also known for it's white water rafting. Each
spring, thousands make the annual trek to the White Water Derby in
the Adirondacks to
ride the rapids of the Hudson River during the first weekend in
May.. Mark your calendars and plan early as this popular event will
be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2007 - sure to be a banner
year for white water rafting spectators and participants. Make sure to reserve your

want to attempt a solo trip, there are several outfitters that offer
White Water rafting with an experienced guide - perfect for a family
or group outing! In addition, kayaking and canoeing lessons are
offered, as well as overnight camping trips.

on the Hudson River in North Creek NY!
Adirondack Hiking
When you choose the comfortable Adirondack vacation rentals found at The Summit's
Gore Mountain accommodations, you are just a short drive away from
the High Peaks region of the Adirondack Mountains. This region is home to 46
high peaks as designated by the
Adirondack
Forty-Sixer organization - a group of hikers who have all hiked
the peaks - some in both summer and winter! Each of the 46
peaks was originally measured at greater than 4,000 feet, though
today's more sophisticated equipment has lowered a couple just shy
of that mark. The highest is Mount Marcy, at 5344' which is also the
highest point in New York State.
Maps and guidebooks to Adirondack hiking trails throughout the Adirondack
Mountains are prevalent throughout sporting good stores in the North
Creek NY & Upstate NY area,
or you can purchase them directly from the
Adirondack Mountain
Club. It's a good idea to check the difficulty level of an
Adirondack hiking trail
before you set out, sign in at the trailhead, and make sure you have
proper clothing and supplies with you for your trek. Do not miss out
on the excellent hiking opportunities that exist while you are on
your vacation at the Adirondack lodging of the Summit's Gore
Mountain lodging resort!
Biking
Adirondack biking opportunities are plentiful and varied, from
leisurely bike rides on designated pathways that are perfect for the
whole family, to extreme downhill mountain biking at Gore Mountain
during the summer months.
If you enjoy challenging Adirondack Mountain biking, you picked
the right Gore Mountain accommodations! Our
Gore
Mountain Lodging rentals at The Summit at Gore Mountain offers some of the most
advanced mountain biking trails in the Northeast. Lift service is
available to the trails - or, if you are just starting out - you can
bike on the cross-country trails at the base of Gore Mountain. If you
have never tried mountain biking, no problem! Gore offers
beginners clinics every weekend throughout the summer and fall.
Remember, The Summit offers discount rates for their
Adirondack vacation rental rooms in
summer and fall so don't miss out!
There are also several Adirondack mountain biking trails
throughout nearby Adirondack communities - the most popular located
in Old Forge and Inlet, both home to annual mountain bike races. One of our
favorite mountain biking trails is the ride in to
Camp Santanoni in Newcomb. This Great Camp resides on New York
State Land and was slated for demolition. A group of people gathered
together to save this wonderful example of an Adirondack Great Camp
and it is slowly being preserved and restored. The 10 mile
round-trip trail begins at the old gatehouse and takes you past a
farm and outbuildings to a secluded lake and the Great Camp. This is
a mixed-use trail - hikers, horses, carriages and mountain bikers
all share the old dirt road into the Camp, and there are campsites dotted around
the lake. Pack a lunch and plan on staying for awhile. During the
summer months, there is a historian stationed at Camp Santanoni providing
information on the Camp's origins and current progress. Visit this
camp next time you stay at one of the Summit's
Gore Mountain lodging rentals!
A little ways south in Lake George NY you can bike on paved paths
that are also popular and suitable for strollers and walkers and
some sections are handicap accessible.
You can view a map of the Bikeway here. More advanced Adirondack mountain
biking routes can also be found in Lake George,
including the popular Shelving Rock Loop.
Swimming
Whether your ideal day is relaxing on a sandy beach, or relaxing
by an indoor pool - The Summit at Gore Mountain is perfectly
situated to provide year-round opportunities for fun - rain or
shine! The Summit's Gore Mountain lodging resort offers an indoor heated pool and sauna - perfect for swimming year-round.
During summer months, the Adirondack's numerous lakes offer a
chance to relax on the beach, have a picnic lunch and take a
refreshing dip in cool, spring-fed lakes. Most are day-use (pay per
car) beaches - but the fees are typically very reasonable at around
$6 per car, give or take a couple dollars. Many Adirondack beaches are located at
state-run campgrounds and include the use of a picnic area, some
with charcoal grills.
The largest and most well-known of the Adirondack beaches nearby
is the
Million Dollar Beach in Lake George - so-named due to its
construction cost in the 1950s. This wide sandy beach is very
popular with sunbathers and with children who love building castles
in the sand. The facilities include a bathhouse and showers. There are
also lifeguards on-duty. This is a very short trek from our
Adirondack lodging rentals. Coupled with nearby
Adirondack attractions that
are within an easy walk such as mini-golf, boat rentals, and
Steamboat cruises, this makes a great destination for a days outing.
Snowshoeing in the Adirondacks
The Adirondack Mountain Park's 6 million acres of land offers
thousands of miles of excellent snowshoeing trails for all ability
levels. Snowshoeing has been around for over 6,000 years that has just recently grown tremendously in popularity.
Snowshoeing is easy to learn and allows everyone to get outside and enjoy the
beauty of the outdoors during the winter months. It can be an
intense physical workout, or a quiet stroll through the silent woods
draped in snow. The Adirondacks offer an abundance of trails for
snowshoeing. There are groomed paths perfect for novices, as well
as rigorous Adirondack trails in the High Peaks, perfect for an
advanced snowshoe enthusiast. Don't forget to keep safety in
the forefront and bring the necessary equipment with you on your
trek, including a pack with additional warm gear, food & water,
cording, and extra binding material. The
Gore
Mountain Ski Area in North Creek NY offers backcountry trails that are for
snowshoeing only, making this a perfect outing when staying at
our Adirondack lodging
facilities.
